ACORN Kenya spent February mobilizing key participants and gathering information to accelerate their youth education advocacy programs in the settlement of Korogocho. They have submitted a petition to the Kenyan government demanding that they meet their promises to provide free food for over a quarter million students, which would make attending school possible these young people.

ACORN Kenya hosted a successful training session on the basics of community organizing for unions and NGOs at the Kariobangi Social Justice Center in Nairobi, and are planning the 2024 African Organizers Forum, slated for early next year. Members are also generating a report to ask the governor to include all the community schools in the urban settlement of Korogocho in their school food program, which would be a major win!

It’s now nearly two months since the first case of Corona Virus was reported in Kenya. Currently there are 396 persons who have contacted the virus with a death toll of 17 people in the whole country with 144 people fully recovered from the infection. Nairobi has been on the lead of the highest number of infections followed by Mombasa.

Over 400 women attended an empowerment event in Korogocho in Nairobi, Kenya. A 6 month’s supply of sanitary pads were distributed to all participants.

PROGRESSIVE REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER, 2016:

30^th NOVEMBER, 2016

The country is fully in campaign mood 10 months before election with so many alignments and launching of different key positions by different politicians. The issues of corruption and misappropriation of funds being a key factor with blame game on both sides of opposition and the government.

On the other had the month of November, we held very health discussion with Eloise who has really been very useful in terms of helping us to be more focused on our organizing work.

Having done with the awareness campaign on the issues of children and drug abuse in all the villages, a select committee is set to meet next week to strategize on our major campaign scheduled to take place by the month of March next year 2017.

Meetings with those undergoing transformation processes took place on 3rd and 17^th November respectively. Majority of those undergoing transformation processes availed themselves and their progress is quite encouraging.

On the other hand organizing has been going on well.
