India
ACORN India is a grassroots organization empowering hawkers, waste pickers, and informal workers in Mumbai, particularly in Dharavi—one of the world’s largest informal settlements. Through collective action, ACORN India fights for dignified working conditions, fair policies, and environmental justice. The organization runs a major recycling initiative, the Dharavi Project, advocating for waste pickers’ rights and sustainable waste management. It also leads efforts to organize street vendors, ensuring their voices are heard in policy decisions and securing protections under India’s Street Vendors Act.
