Arkansas Grassroots United
Fighting for Climate Resilience and Emergency Justice

Arkansas Grassroots United is a newly emerging coalition of membership-based organizations working across the state to protect vulnerable communities from climate catastrophe. Formed through a partnership between Anthropocene Alliance and ACORN, we are committed to grassroots action, government accountability, and climate justice for all Arkansans.
Our First Action: A Statewide Call to Protect FEMA
As part of the Global “Beat the Heat” Day of Action on July 23rd, Arkansas Grassroots United is launching our first public campaign: a sign-on letter to federal officials and President Biden demanding the protection and expansion of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
This action comes in response to Donald Trump’s reckless statement suggesting FEMA be dismantled—a move that would endanger the lives of millions across the U.S., including thousands of Arkansans living in disaster-prone areas.
The Letter to Congress:
We’ve written a letter addressed to the Arkansas Congressional Delegation urging them to:
- Publicly oppose any plan to eliminate FEMA
- Protect the National Flood Insurance Program, relied on by over 10,000 Arkansas families
- Support increased FEMA funding and staff, especially for rural and under-resourced areas
- Guarantee an equitable, operational FEMA for current and future disasters

How You Can Join the Campaign
Whether you’re in Arkansas or anywhere else across the country, you can adapt our letter for your own state. Just replace “Arkansas” with your community and add your own group’s name and logo.
Why participate?
Because climate disasters don’t wait. This is a simple but powerful action anyone can take—stamp an envelope, send an email, or sign on digitally. Together, we can create a wall of grassroots resistance to climate inaction and political gamesmanship.
Why This Matters for Arkansas
From the devastating tornadoes in Central Arkansas (2023) to worsening floods and wildfires, our state faces increasing climate threats. FEMA has been a lifeline in times of crisis. Losing it would:
- Leave communities stranded without aid
- Strip vital resources from rural counties
- Jeopardize flood insurance access for thousands
Now is the time to strengthen our emergency response systems.
