Living Rent Glasgow Takes on Sanctuary House Over Mold-Inducing Neglect
Living Rent Glasgow rallied at the offices of Sanctuary House, demanding the clogged gutters get cleaned. Even though these overflowing gutters are a major source of mold in the building, Sanctuary House refused to listen, but Living Rent is refusing to back down. When we fight together, we win!
ACORN Kenya Tackles Gender-Based Violence and Hosts Waste Management Stakeholders Meeting
After a dramatic increase in gender-based violence in the community, ACORN Kenya met with impacted members of the community and made a plan to support them, including trainings and community education and outreach against gender-based violence. Meanwhile, they also organized a successful stakeholder’s meeting for waste management in Korogocho.
ACORN New Brunswick Fights for Livable Social Assistance, While Alberta Hosts Anti-Colonialism Powwow
ACORN New Brunswick held a rally to advocate for raising the rates of social assistance to a livable wage. Meanwhile, ACORN Alberta members organized a highly successful powwow that addressed local issues of colonization and systemic racism against Indigenous and First Nation people, and the effects we still see today in housing injustice, economic disparities, and social inequalities.
A Community Voice and LSU Students Register Voters in Treme After Hurricane Francine
After weathering Hurricane Francine early this month, A Community Voice and The Claiborne Avenue Alliance teamed up with dozens of students from Louisiana State University to train and register voters in the historic Treme neighborhood ahead of the upcoming essential presidential election in November. This kind of action shows the next generation the power of people coming together!
ACORN Cardiff Engages Channel View Residents to Educate and Empower Renters
This month, ACORN Cardiff kept the momentum building on their outreach efforts when they visited Channel View Tower block to speak with residents and listen to their concerns, while simultaneously educating people on their rights as renters. Every human deserves safe, dry, and warm housing!
Solidarjeta Malta Mobilizes Student Tenants and Prepares “Know Your Rights” Workshop
Solidarjeta Malta was hard at work this month mobilizing student tenants against unfair landlords and educating them on renter’s rights. This included actions such as outreach, collecting narratives and complaints from student tenants, and promoting their upcoming “Know Your Rights” workshop for renters.
Alliance Citoyenne Secures Rehousing Without Rent Increases for Families Displaced by Fire
This month, Alliance Citoyenne advocated for several tenant families, including a young mother who was left homeless after a fire. The tenants’ union Locataires Ensemble immediately mobilized and organized a rally of support. The collective action paid off: the landlord offered rehousing solutions without any increase in rent for the tenants. When we fight together, we win!
ACORN Brighton Wins Crackdown on Negligent Landlords, Cambridge and London Target Housing Injustice
After months of hard work, ACORN Brighton scored a major win when they secured a city-council backed crackdown on corrupt and negligent landlords, bringing relief to tenants across the city now, and for years to come! ACORN Cambridge and ACORN London teamed up to march directly on the offices of Places for People, who has been the source of over six years of serious housing issues and tenant suffering. This is direct action at work!
