Alliance Citoyenne : Discriminated Against by the Chalon Formation Center, the Libawat Union Launches a Petition
Every year, hundreds of Muslim women face discrimination in higher education and are excluded and deprived of training. From the recognition of this injustice and the desire to fight against it, Libawat was born, the union of Muslim women in Chalon-sur-Saône launched in September 2022.

Our affiliate, Alliance Citoyenne’s collective Les Hijabeuses, lodged an appeal in November 2021 challenging the French Football Federation’s prohibition on players wearing the hijab.
Amidst this ongoing battle, regardless of the final judgment from the Council of State, what we have accomplished is HISTORICAL. Women, the very individuals most affected, athletes, and activists, stood up against a powerful institution like the FFF. We have refused to stay silent, unapologetically embracing our identities and reclaiming our rights.

ACORN Hamilton, ACORN Toronto, and ACORN London members held an action in front of 140 Tycos Drive in North York, Ontario on June 22 to deliver a demand letter from tenants who are fed up with the tenant displacement tactics employed by Family Properties. Finding an address with an active office to drop a demand letter was challenging, and illustrates the need for one of ACORN Canada’s national Stop Corporate Landlords campaign demands: the right to know your landlord.
(more…)OnEstEnsemble, ACORN Cameroon : Protest for Compensation as Pesticide-Sprayed Crops are Destroyed
OnEstEnsemble organized a protest with the eco-union of residents near the SOSUCAM sugar cane plantations. These residents’ crops of cassava, peanuts and yams were destroyed by SOSUCAM’s planes spraying pesticides. The residents gathered the destroyed crops and displayed signs in protest, demanding compensation.
The residents living near the sugarcane plantations of the Somdiaa group, a subsidiary of the French giant Castel, have been forced to uproot their cassava, peanut, and yam crops destroyed by the aerial spraying of pesticides by the company’s planes. In response to this devastation, several individuals gathered to protest and plan to dump their destroyed produce in front of the Sosucam headquarters. The victims are demanding significant compensation from the company for their immense losses.

Our Liberia affiliate, Justicitiz, forced multinational corporation Socfin Group to repair drainage they had destroyed months ago in Massaquoi town. How did they do it? Using the ACORN model! They held a “Fix our Drainage System and Anti Green-washing” protest. During the protest, armed police dispersed and chased after Justicitizs’ members. A few days later, Socfin workers repaired the drainage system, making the village safe from flooding again. Direct action gets the goods!

En la zona de los Laures Choloma Cortes Las imagenes se refieren a la zona de los Laureles en Choloma.. donde Ellos tienen una salida de agua natural que consumen para todo uso…Que deberia estar protegida con arboles para conservarla se esta haciendo estudios de poblacion para poder extender y llevar tuberias hasta sus casas pero aun no se ha hecho. Esta zona tiene un aproximado de 43 kilometros para un pulmon de aire natural en la que pueden sembrar aguacates, naranjas, limones, guayabas, lichas, etc., y puede la comunidad crear un pequeño comercio de esos frutos. Y en la zona del pozo de agua unos 15 kilometros aproximadamente.
The images refer to the area of Los Laureles in Choloma where there is a natural water outlet that they consume for all uses…which should be protected with trees to conserve it, population studies are being carried out to be able to extend and bring pipes to their houses but it has not yet been done. This zone has approximately 43 kilometers for a lung of natural air in which they can plant avocados, oranges, lemons, guavas, lychas, etc., and the community can create a small trade in these fruits. ACORN Leeds updates
In Leeds, ACORN welcomed the newest local group, with the launch of ACORN Armley local group.
Also in Leeds, there were many trainings, stalls, and door knocking sessions through April 2022. Additionally, members spoke at a Social Housing Action Campaign rally, Communication Workers Union conference, and National Education Union conference.
