After months of hard work, ACORN Brighton scored a major win when they secured  a city-council backed crackdown on corrupt and negligent landlords, bringing relief to tenants across the city now, and for years to come! ACORN Cambridge and ACORN London teamed up to march directly on the offices of Places for People, who has been the source of over six years of serious housing issues and tenant suffering. This is direct action at work!

The Popular Struggle Coordinating Committee is calling for international support to defend the olive harvest in the West Bank, a critical source heritage and community power, as well as vital source of food and economic mobility for Palestinians.

CATU Belfast held multiple community meetings and events to spread awareness about their important work and recruit new members, including a potluck in East Belfast and planning for the upcoming Autumn Get-Together. This is community building creates the people power that leads to sustaining and meaningful change!

ACORN Honduras continued their tireless advocacy for children’s rights, health, and education this month. Members coordinated the donation and set-up of chairs and desks for a school, as well as planning for an upcoming event highlighting children’s health and wellness.

The Popular Struggle Coordinating Committee has continued their essential work documenting and spreading awareness of the atrocities in Palestine, utilizing social media and other online resources to build international andvocacy and solidarity.

A Community Voice continued their vital work protecting homes in the Lower 9th Ward against unjust demolition on a variety of fronts. Most recently, they have been working with Louisiana Representative Candace Newell to block funding for the expansion of the Industrial Canal and keep homes safe.

Living Rent Glasgow is campaigning the Glasgow City Council to implement NPF4, which would see developers having to commit to a minimum of 25% genuinely affordable housing in their new builds. As history tells us, community resistance and direct action are essential for winning our demands.

We want social housing, not luxury flats!

CATU Belfast held various community meetings and events, gathering updated information about unfair landlords and rental practices, and spreading awareness about the value of solidarity. This is the hard work that builds the wins of the future!

Following last month’s successful outreach event, ACORN Cardiff marched on Letting Station offices to demand repairs and compensation for a member living with severe mould and other issues. As we build our community, we build our power!  

ACORN Cambridge rallied a group of tenants at Radiance House, citing urgent issues such as mould, excessive heat, and concerns around fire safety. Representatives from housing association Places for People, which lets flats within the building, were invited but did not attend – a spokesperson said they encourage residents to raise issues through the complaints process. With ACORN behind them, these residents continue to fight for safe and fair housing!
